With the rising threat of security breaches in today’s technology landscape, the need for products that can deliver a high degree of trusted protection has been amplified. The United States’ National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Canada’s Communications Security Establishment (CSE) created the Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS 140-2) as a standard for systems that process sensitive, but unclassified (SBU) information, to address that need. FIPS 140-2 defines the security requirements for hardware, software, or firmware that use cryptography.
The Unified Crypto Module is the transmission security (TRANSEC) module used in Comtech EF Data’s SLM-5650A Satellite Modem and the DMD2050E Satellite Modem, which were designed for government, military and secure commercial network use. These modems enable satellite communication users to minimize satellite bandwidth, maximize throughput and availability without using additional transponder resources, and allow for the use of a smaller BUC/HPA and/or antenna. The SLM-5650A and DMD2050E modems are commonly used for communications at-the-pause, communications on-the-move, rugged environments, and secure networks. The modems provide unrivaled reliability, performance, interoperability and ease of use.
